Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Nebraska
NHSPA DEI Commitment Statement
Nebraska’s high school journalism programs uplift the voices of their students, schools and communities with fairness, accuracy and empathy. The Nebraska High School Press Association has set the following Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) commitments:
- We commit to continually prioritizing DEI efforts and examining how our organization utilizes its resources, programming, and membership to support Nebraska high school journalism advisers, the scholastic journalists and their programs.
- We commit to serving our Nebraska high school journalism advisers and scholastic journalists in ways that meet their current DEI needs and challenges while also honoring and celebrating diverse voices that comprise our organization’s community.
- We commit to elevating marginalized voices and supporting Nebraska high school journalism programs in that endeavor.

NHSPA spotlights student journalism programs that are elevating the diverse voices of their community through a M>RE THAN Words Spotlight to post regularly on our website and social media platforms. These posts will feature the student journalist, an excerpt from the publication, and a link to the publication if possible.
A M>RE THAN Words spotlight is meant for the articles, broadcasts, podcasts, photography or other publications that highlight diverse voices. These publications can celebrate or uplift the diverse members of the student journalist’s school or community. They can also shed light on issues marginalized community members face.
